Salary Range: 15.00 - 23.00 USD Hourly

Major Duties:

Incumbent works on heavy vehicles and equipment such as tanker trailers, dump trucks, bulldozers, road graders, and similar heavy construction and earth moving vehicles, front-end loaders, back hoes and farm tractors exceeding 100 horsepower and attachments. Determines causes of mechanical operating problems, traces and locates defects, and makes repairs to heavy mobile equipment and vehicles. Operates a wide variety of motor vehicles including 2 and 4 wheel drive light trucks up to 1 ton, and gasoline and diesel powered vehicles with gross weights of 50,000 pounds or more. Performs heavy equipment operation using road graders, bulldozers, farm tractors and attachment and various other equipment.  Makes automotive repairs to major components and assemblies such as engines, transmissions, and differentials. Uses test equipment such as pressure gages, timing lights, etc.



Qualifications:

While there is no minimum amount of training or experience required, the applicant must have had experience, military or civilian, paid or unpaid, of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic. The applicant must have experience in diagnosing, repairing, overhauling and modifying automotive and heavy mobile equipment; repairing/installing of components, assemblies, transmissions, power steering, braking systems, electrical, or hydraulic systems of vehicles and trucks up to 1 ton or gross vehicle weights of 50,000 pounds or more.
 
 
 
Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, turning, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds; occasional sitting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds and using foot controls. Must be able to perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on vehicles, trucks, mobile equipment, air tools, generators, pumps, tractors, etc. May be required to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Finger dexterity, good color vision and hearing, ability to perform close work.  Frequently in the cold and around electrical risks; and occasionally around fumes, chemicals, oils, fuels, extreme heat, vibration, noise, and poor ventilation.  Occasionally required to work in confined areas and at heights of 20 feet or more.


Conditions of Employment:


1. Successful candidate must possess or be able to obtain a valid state driver's license.
 
2. Successful candidate must supply their own hand tools and testing equipment required to preform the job duties.
 
3. This is a drug testing designated position. Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required prior to appointment to
submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use. As a condition of continued employment in this position, incumbent(s) will be
subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
